The Early Walker Settlers of Central Pennsylvania

Overview

According to Egle's history of Central Pennsylvania, sometime before 1734 five brothers, sons of James Walker and his wife Elizabeth, and grandsons of Robert Walker, immigrated from Londonderry, Ireland, to Pennsylvania with their parents Source:Egle's Notes and Queries. The earliest records for these Letterkenny Walkers date from 1734. Some authors give an immigration date of before 1715, others indicate that they landed in Baltimore Maryland in 1725. Supporting original source documentation has not been found for any of these views. Recent research reveals that Egle made multiple errors in his research, conflating at least 5 unrelated Walker families together. YDNA evidence shows that these "brothers" were actually distinct Walker lines and were not related at all. It is unknown if Robert or James were ancestors of any of these brothers. There exist documents that a Robert and James Walker were present in Londonderry, Ireland, but as of 2020 no supporting documents have been found connecting these two men to any of the Walker families of Path Valley. James Walker is believed to be the immigrant ancestor of the Letterkenny Walkers who settled in Cumberland, Dauphin, and Lebanon Counties PA, sometimes around 1734. The wife of James is commonly identified as "Elizabeth", but the basis for this is unknown. He is said to have settled in Lancaster County, but exactly when and where is not known.

Listed below are some of the purported "children" of James Walker in Pennsylvania. None of these children were actually related at all. These "sons" are listed on James's family page as a navigational guide for genealogists researching these individuals and does not reflect historical accuracy.
