The state of Tennessee Knox County: County Court November Sessions 1836
Martha McCampbell a citizen of Knox County appeared in open court at the County
Court of Knox County at a court held on the first Monday of November 1836 at the court House
in Knoxville and made the following declaration & statement of facts to obtain a pension under the provisions of the acts of Congress – to wit

husband James McCampbell served a tour against the Indians in the year they made an attack on Donley's Fort [Fort Donnelly] in Greenbrier [County] Virginia. He served under Captain
Alexander Tedford and was an Ensign in his company as she believes. He also served a Tour
from Rockbridge when the men were marched to Charlottesville to meet the British and oppose
their March to Staunton as it was said they were coming to that place. In 1781 he was drafted and went as an Ensign in Captain Alexander Tedford's Company to North Carolina and was in the battle at Guilford [March 15, 1781] in which battle Captain Tedford was killed. John Boyer was Colonel and Alexander Stuart was Major and was taken prisoner at that battle as she is informed & believes.
