- James Laird, third son of Capt. David Laird, married Jean Anderson daughter of Col. Andrew and Margaret (Crawford) Anderson, of Augusta Co., VA. on 15 Aug. 1797 in Augusta Co., VA., but she died shortly thereafter, and he remarried to Jane Kerr, daughter of James and Jean (Robertson) Kerr Jr., of Augusta Co., Va. on 4 Dec. 1799 in Augusta Co., Ky. Jane Kerr was born ca. 1781 in VA., a granddaughter of James Kerr Sr., who was one of the first justices of the first court held in Staunton, VA., and was active in the organization of Augusta County in 1745, and of James and Elizabeth (Crawford) Robertson, of Augusta Co., VA., and a great granddaughter of Alexander Crawford. They moved to Kentucky, but kept the family property in Augusta Co., VA., until 1818. Eventually they settled in Hopkins Co., Ky., in 1820, where he received a land grant of 300 acres on probably in Hart Co., Ky., before 1856, and Jane (Kerr) Laird supposedly moved to Missouri after his death, and she probably died there, but this has not been confirmed.
