This researcher has found no record of marriage for James H. Crandall and Eliza J. Marsh. However, review of the 1850 Ohio Census (Union Township, Monroe County) lists an Eliza J. Battie (probably Beatty or Beattie) of the Martin Battie Family living next to Thomas B. Crandall. Eliza J. Battie is of the right age (b. 1839-40), birthplace (OH), and first name as the wife of James H. Crandall as listed in the 1860 Ohio Census (Franklin Township, Monroe County). This researcher theorizes that James H. Crandall married Eliza J. Battie (probably Beatty or Beattie) not Eliza J. Marsh. Information provided by Becky Rutherford shows that John Rutherford and Martin Beatty were named co-executors to the Will of Allen Rutherford. 1850 Ohio Census Records show that Martin Beatty lived next to Thomas B. Crandall and Allen Rutherford. John Rutherford married Margaret A. Crandall and as referenced above this researcher believes that Eliza J. Beatty married James H. Crandall. Family rememberances indicate that James H. Crandall moved his family to Minnesota near the eastern border of North Dakota. James returned to Ohio for a brief period to purchase cattle for his farm then returned to Minnesota. James was not heard from again by his family. This researcher has found no additional information on James H. Crandall other than presented herein. Something else I found in Columbus at the geneology library was that in Monroe County, Ohio a Thomas B. Crandell was appointed administrator on the 3rd of July 1860 in the estate of James A. Crandell. This was a court entry abstract in a book titled Monroe County Ohio Records. Now the court abstracts that you sent us and that we had use both James A. Crandall and James H. Crandall depending on which you look at.
