(*) Strip of land not in survey of William Alexander's land in 1767 (when divided between sons) was granted to JAMES MASON in 1787, son of John Mason d. 1761. (*) In 1774 James Alexander wrote his will giving 150 acres to MARY CRAWFORD. [Kegley identifies this as the Mary Crawford who married Edward Pate; I question that for she was only three at the time. Is this a sister of Samuel and James? -- my earlier comments -- apparently it is, but still seems strange to me.] (*) In this will James Alexander names his COUSIN James Tosh who received 220 acres on Back Creek;, Mary Tosh, dau of Thomas who received a mare "for many obligations received"; his UNCLE James Heatly (sic) and COUSIN Sarah Heatly.
