Facts and Events
With his parents on 1850 census, Laurel, Hocking Co., Oh, age "5".[p 28 fam #405/414] On 1860 census, we are told he is 12.[p 156 fam #983/ 971] He married Mary A. KNEICKBAUM (possibly Krickbaum/ Kreachbaum). 1870 census tells us Jacob is a farmer in Valley Twp., Polk Co., Ia. He and his wife, Mary, are both 21. They have with them Ellen, age 3, born in Ohio; and Elmer, 1, born in Iowa.[p 406 fam #95/105] He also has in his home John Krickbaum, 39. We later find one George Krickbaum, b. 1873, married to a descendant of John Rittgers #1.3. We are told that "Jacob moved to an area by the North Loup River [Nebraska] in an area that became known as the Strohl Community. It is not a town. From what cousins living in NE now say the Strohl community is still there." [Frances Robertson] On the 1880 census for Nebraska "Unorganized Territory", reel 757, we find that Jacob Strohl, 32, is a farmer. He declares he b. Oh., to parents b. Pa. Wife Mary A., 30, declares she b. Oh. to parents b. Germany. She is caring for their four children. (ED 194, p. 571B, fam #19/19) On the 1900 census, Strohl Precinct, Loup Co., Neb., Jacob, 51, is a farmer. Wife Mary A., 51 declares they have been married 25 years and she declares she has born 7 children, # alive at this time is difficult to make out. She b. Oh, father b. Germany, and mother b. Va. She has 4 children in the home. Also in the home is one Abigail (here writing poor but most probably) Kreichbaum, 58, sister-in-law. She is single, b. Oh. Aug 1841, father b. Germany and mother b. Va. ( ED 158, p. 6B, fam # ) In 1910, Strohl Precinct, Jacob, now 66, continues farming. He declares he has marr2. Seen with him is wife Nannie, 50, marr2. She declares they have been married 4 years and she has born 2 children, one alive at this time. It must have been by her former husband, as there are no children in the home.
