On the 1850 census, age 11, with parents, Laurel Twp., Hocking Co., Oh.[p 28 fam #405/414] On the 1860 census, we find William, 27,a farmer in Laurel Twp., Hocking Co., Oh. Wife Eve, 20, is caring for their daughter , Caroline.[p 72 fam #984/972] In 1870 we find William T., 36, farmer with $1400 in Real Estate and $500 in personal property in Jefferson, Polk Co., Ia. They are in the home of Eve's brother Noah and his wife, Mary (Hooper), and very near the other Rittgers relatives.[p 334 fa m #31/32] Also in the home is Crystal Hooper, 21. Eve's youngest child, Sarah, age 2, was born in Iowa and the next oldest, Mary age 5, born in Ohio. Thus, they moved to Iowa between 1865 & 1868. In 1880 they are on their own farm in Grant Twp., Dallas Co., Ia. William, 46 , is a farmer, wife Eve, age 40, is caring for the four children in the home.[ED 49, p 219, fam #82/84]
