  3. John disowned his stepmother Elizabeth and at age of 16, he ran away from home. Went to northern part of Quebec and taught school among the people who were mostly Indians at that time.

    Died at 72 years at his home. Lived in Sussex from birth til young man. Lived in Detroit for many years and worked as a ship carpentering, also sailing a number of years. Married Charlotte and in the fall of "55 moved to Grand Traverse and bought and cleared the place that he has lived on for 34 years. He was a honest and hard working man. He was honest to the penny. Hiw workd was never disputed in his family among those who knew him. He leaves 4 sons and 2 daughters. All live in sight of their parental home. Years ago, he united with the Bapist Church and til his death he was a quiet advocate of his Master. The service was held at his home.
