• Vol.2 - Walker vs. Preston--O. S. 93; N. S. 31--William Walker, late of Washington County, died intestate, leaving widow, Elizabeth, and eight children, viz: Nancy (m. Wm. Gallehan), Betsey (m. Wm. Carmack), John, William, Peggy (m. Elijah Tancray), James (infant), Lucy (infant), Elsy (infant). At William's death all were infants except John. In 1773 Henry Dougherty made a settlement on Laurel Fork of Holston River. Dougherty sold to John Newland, who sold to James Crabtree, who sold to William Walker, deceased. William Crabtree deposes he knew the land as a hunter, 1772-1779. Mrs. Nancy Tate, a settler, deposes. Robert Fowler, a settler, 1779, deposes. James Crabtree, a settler, deposes, Robertson County, Tenn, 1805, that his deposition was formerly taken in Russellville,Logan County, Kentucky. Aaron Lewis, a surveyor, deposes, 1804, in Russellville, Logan County, Kentucky. Andrew Marshall deposes that John Dougherty left the county in 1778 and Henry Dougherty in 1779. James Crabtree deposes that in 1780 or 1781, Wm. Walker settled on Laurel Fork. Elisha Dungans, a settler, deposes that Wm. Walker in 1778 or 1779 moved to Middle Fork of Holston. James Tosh deposes he knew no improvement earlier than Parson Terry's. James Stokes lived on it at one time. Charles Thurman deposes he was married in June, 1790, and William Walker, died the winter before. Robert Dennison deposes that Henry and John Dougherty moved from this country in fall of 1779. Joseph Dougherty lived on Reed Creek. Deponent is brother-in-law to the Doughertys.

The following genealogical outline of Henry Dougherty, one of the son's of Michael Mor Dougherty-II and Mary nee Clarke, of Lagan Valley, . The Dougherty family, including Henry's father Michael Mor Dougherty-II and his wife arrived in America landing at New Castle, Delaware on 10 December, 1727. The genealogical data rests upon an unusually large number of records; without ever becoming famous themselves, the Dougherty's were sufficiently in the stream of history and associated with well-known personages, that a considerable amount of data survives:

Henry Dougherty was born near Natural Bridge, Rockbridge County, Virginia, in 1740 or 1741? He married 1st. a Jane (?nee) Dougherty; 2nd a Catherine French, perhaps the widow of a John French of Lincoln County, Kentucky, bond on 21 May, 1792. Henry along with at least two of his brother's, Joseph and Robert Dougherty, were three of the original signers of the Cumberland Compact in 1 May 1780. Note: The Cumberland Compact was a petition to the government that the inhabitants of the Cumberland River (which at that point in time was the frontier) wished to form a government consisting of laws, elected officials, judges, etc., etc,. In total there were about 250 individuals who signed the Cumberland Compact to form a government on the frontier. Henry was the first known settler so far into the wilderness on the waters of the North Holston on the road from Virginia into Kentucky through the Cumberland Gap: (Reference: Lyman Chalkley, Gates of the Wilderness Road, Virginia Magazine of History, Vol. 30, page 201). Henry was in Kentucky by the year 1778. One of his daughters, Jane married a Burton Mullikin, in Shelby County, Kentucky on 28 May, 1799. Following the death of Jane nee Dougherty Mullikin, Burton Mullikin married a Margaret Dougherty (daughter of Joseph Dougherty one of Henry's brothers) around 1807?

Henry is believed to have died in Mercer County, Kentucky by the year 1821? One of his son's; William Dougherty married a Eliza French in Henry County, Kentucky on 20 January, 1800. Henry's son William is believed to have died on 14 March, 1814 either in Fleming or Henry County, Kentucky? Henry's son William and his wife Eliza had the following children: Elizabeth Dougherty who married a William Perkins in Orange County, Indiana on 11 August, 1825; Patsy Dougherty (who was believed to have been William and Eliza's oldest child?) married a William Crow in Jefferson County, Kentucky on 13 June, 1816; Zeniah Dougherty who married a Joseph McClain C1827 in Jefferson County, Kentucky?; Cassandra Dougherty who married a Morgan Hall C1832 in Jefferson County, Kentucky; Harriet Dougherty who married a Shadrack Hosea c1832 in Jefferson County, Kentucky?; Maria Dougherty who married a William Van Sant c1835 in Jefferson County, Kentucky; and last was William Dougherty who married a Catherine (?nee) Dougherty by the year 1824.
