    Hermanus came to the U.S. on 20 September 1743, landing in Philadelphia, PA, aboard the ship LYDIA. He first settled in York County, PA. He was a member of the Conestoga Baptist Church by 24 April 1748. He was Supervisor of Highways in 1761 and was Oversee of the Poor in 1778. He owned a sawmill and a grist mill in Barwick Township, PA. Hermanus and his wife moved to Botetourt County, Virginia, about 1791. He married Agnesa Catrina (Catherine) MEINHARDT about 1748.
