Doherty, George - entered service 1774 in Augusta County, Virginia, where born 1/18/1749; moved to Greene County, North Carolina where entered service 1778; granted Pension 1832 in Jefferson County, Tennessee; widow & children mentioned but not named 1778; query letter in file states soldier died 8/27/1834 in Jefferson County, Tennessee, married Priscilla Goforth & had 2 children including Priscilla, who was born 3/26/1782, further Mrs. Annie Blackburn (Mrs. J.W.) Woolfolk, lived 1923 in Fort Valley, Georgia, joined D.A.R. as soldier's descendant. F-S1807, R828

    Col. George Dougherty, of Jefferson County, Tennessee, we are told, was born in Augusta County, Virginia, on January 18, 1749. We are also told that his wife's name was Priscilla Goforth. We know that the Goforths were in Mecklenburg and Rutherford Counties in North Carolina.
