Will Abstract
From Chalkley’s Augusta County Records:
- Page 315.--6th August, 1806. Francis Acord's (German) will--To wife, Dorothy; children. Executors, Philip Hains and Jacob Eccord. Teste: Daniel Fall, Jno. Roberts. Proved, 23d October, 1809. Executors qualify.
Will Transcript
- In the Name of God, Amen, I Francis Acord of Augusta county and State of Virginia being weak in body, but of sound and perfect mind and memory blessed be god eternal name for the same, do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Dorothy Acord one hundred in money at my decease and likewise the following goods: one breeding mare, two Cows, two sheep, and two hogs, allso the little negroe girl Nancy and any of my household furniture that she thinks she has occasion for.
- I allso desire that all my real and personal estate after that above is taken out of for my said wife, be sold by publick sale to the highest and fairest bidder in as short a time after my decease as the nature of the circumstance will admit and the one third of the amount of said sale.
- I leave and bequeath to my said wife during her natural life, and at her decease to be equally divided between my children that is to say whatever of the said third may remain after my said wife having her sufficient support out of the same while she lives and I likewise leave & bequeath the other two thirds of my real and personal Estate aforesaid to be equally divided among all my Children, be it remembered before signing that I leave to my wife forty bushels of grain twenty of it wheat, and the rest in rye and Corn out of my present Crop and two loads of ___ and lastly ___ hereby appoint Philip Hains and Jacob Eccord of Augusta County and State aforesaid of Virginia my sole executors of this my last will and Testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made.
- In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 6th day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and six.
- Signed, sealed published and declared by the above named Francis Acord to be his last will and Testament in the presence of us and in the presence of the testator.

- At a Court continued and held for Augusta County the 23rd of October 1809. This last will and Testament of Francis Acord deceased was presented in Court and proved by the oaths of Daniel Fall and John Roberts two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded, and on the motion of Philip Hains and Jacob Acord the executors therein named who made oath according to law and together with Paul Seig and George Keller their securities entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of fifteen hundred dollars conditioned as the law directs certificate is granted them for obtaining probat thereof in due form.

- Vol. 1 - AUGUST, 1795. - Francis and Christian Eccord vs. William Chambers and Anthony Mustoe. Writ, Spa. April, 1789. 1785 to 178_ plaintiffs had dealings with defendants as deputy sheriff. Francis was a Gennan and unacquainted with English language. The bill charges serious impositions on Francis by defendants and prays settlement of accounts, etc. Christian was son of Francis.

I notice that the Christian Echard mentioned in some of these messages in Rockbridge Co, Va was BORN in 1792 when the above Christian Echard and Barbara Thomas were married.Hmmmmm Coincidence?
