In the 1900 census, Francis was living in Loudon Twp., Carroll Co., Ohio. He was listed as age 29 born April 1871in Ohio, his wife Mary M. age 22 born September 1877 in Ohio, and their daughter; Viola M. age 2 born May 1898 in Ohio. Francis brother, Harry J. (L.) age 24 born March 1876 in Ohio, was living with him.

Francis Elmer Colar, 77, died in his home at Kilgore Friday at 8:30 A.M. after an illness of five years. He was born in Loudon Township and had lived his entire life in this community. He was a retired blacksmith and a member of the Kilgore Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary (Karns) Colar; two daughter, Mrs. Viola McMillen and Mrs. Emma Davis of Kilgore; one sister, Mrs. Anna Reigle of Perry Township and two grandchildren. Services were held Sunday at 1:30 P.M. in the residence and at 2 P.M. in the church, Rev. Edwin Wagstaff officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
