    Mrs. LaVerne Still Dodd, 74, of Steele, Mo., died Tuesday, February 25, 1997, at Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti, Mo.

    A daughter of the late Allie "Bud" Still and Bessie Frakes Still, she was born on a Labor Day, September 4, 1922. She jokingly would say she was born on Labor Day and had worked hard ever since.

    LaVerne also was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Still and Inez Shelton; one brother, Quentin Still; and a son, Buddy Dwayne Christian.

    She was the widow of James Malcolm Christian and Delmar 'Buddy" Dodd.

    A member of Boone's Chapel Church of Christ on the bayou near Steele for over 55 years, she was a Steele High School graduate and had worked as a hostess at the Steele Nutrition Site.

    Mrs. Dodd leaves five daughters: Carolyn Lineberry and her husband, Lewis, of Lake Charles, La.; Glenda Doutt and her husband, Ben of Lexington, Ky., and Jamie Heinen, Mary Bess Taylor and her husband, Danny, and Laura Davidson, all of Steele; two sons: Dale Dodd and his wife, Dana, and Ben Dodd, all of Steele; one brother, Paul "Duke" Still, of Steele; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her best friend, Attie Bird McCollum; numerous nieces and nephews; and Christian brethren at her church.

    LaVerne was a beloved Christian mother and best friend to them all.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Dodd were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 28, 1997 at John W. German Funeral Home in Steele with Mr. Bill Lovelace officiating.

    Burial was at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele with John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge.

    Serving as pallbearers were her nephews, Marvin Lineberry, Quentin Wayne Still, Glen Allen Still, Kevin Still, Kim Kelsey, and Kerry Kelsey.
