James Christian, 57, of Steele, was killed in a one-car accident Saturday night. The accident occurred at 10:40 p.m. July 9, on Highway 164 just west of the Interstate near Farmers & Planters Co-op. Christian was driving a 1965 Dodge west, according to a State Highway Patrol officer. The car failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the roadway, hit a deep ditch and overturned, pinning Mr. Christian under the car. He was dead on arrival at the hospital in Hayti.
Funeral services for James Malcolm Christian were held July 12 at the German-Aumon Funeral Home Chapel in Steele with Mr. Ed Brand conducting the services.
Mr. Christian was born Nov. 10, 1919 in Elbridge, Tenn. He was the son of Joe and Frances (Miller) Christian.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Christian lived on Route 3, Steele, and was employed by the Alfalfa Mill in Steele.
He leaves his wife, Dorothy (Blagg) Christian of the home; his mother, Mrs. Frances Christian of Corinth, Miss.; seven daughters, Carolyn Lineberry of Lake Charles, La.; Glenda Harris of Kentucky; Jamie and Mary Bess Taylor of Steele, and Vicki, Teresa, and Susan Christian of Steele; a son James Christian, Jr., of Steele, and five grandchildren.
He also leaves seven sisters, Christine McBird of Tahoe, Calif.; Margaret Norris of Carthage, Miss.; Geraldine Hitchens of Steele; Virginia Rayborn of Dorris City, Calif.; Mable Catt of Springfield, Mo.; Trecia Bennett of Pearl River, Miss.; and Aubryon Thomas of St. Petersburg, Fla.
Four brothers, Joe Christian, Jr., of Pascagoula, Miss.; John Christian of Bloomsburg, Pa.; and Jerry Christian of Belleville, Ill.
Pallbearers were Walter Holly, Howard Teeter, Bobby Martin, Johnny Williamson, Joe Ben Baxter, and O. G. Hitchens.
Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery with the German-Aumon Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
