From the March 8, 1928, edition of the Clayton County Register (Elkader, Ia.) Evarista Tayek was born January 7, 1909, and died at her home in McGregor on the morning of February 27, 1928. She spent the greater part of her life on a farm near Giard. After completing the eighth grade in the rural school near her home, she entered Monona high school, where she spent three years. Just before the beginning of her fourth year, her parents moved to McGregor, and she graduated there with the class of 1927. She spent the summer and fall subsequent to her graduation at Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, preparing for the teaching profession. She leaves to mourn her untimely death her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Tayek, two sisters, Florence and Ruth, and two brothers, Harold and Benjamin. The funeral was held at St. Mary's Catholic church at McGregor on Wednesday, February 29, Rev. Father Horsefield conducting the services. Interment was made at Monona. Rev. Donlon, assisted by Rev.
