Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VA

Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:

  • Page 408.--20th August, 1760. Henry Brown and Alice to Esther Brown, £5, 54 acres by patent, 3d November, 1750, on a branch of Roanoke called Lick Run; cor. James Burke. (Note: Esther Brown was the younger sister of Henry Brown, Jr.).

From Chalkley's Augusta County Records:

  • Page 204.--17th November, 1757. Esther (Easter) Brown's bond (with Robert Moody, James Moody) as administratrix of Henry Brown. (Note: some sources claim that Esther Brown was born abt. 1739, but to qualify as the administrator of her father's estate in 1757, she was most likely born a few years earlier, as she would have been only 18 years old at the time).
