Tentative connection to parents

Ephraim first appears in records as a 24-year-old farmer in Randolph County, Alabama, with wife Caroline Morrow and 2-year-old Benjamin Morrow. His migration and location, as well as the DNA results discussed below, are consistent with his parents being James and Caroline (Shoemaker) Morrow.

Ephraim and Caroline are in Randolph County until they move to Mississippi in the 1870s. Ephraim bought 50 acres in Randolph County in 1860, but the family is listed with less than $100 in real estate and no slaves. Ephraim joined the 3rd Alabama Calvary, Company E, before December 1864 when he appears on treatment records at the hospital in Selma.

Ephraim and Caroline had nine children between about 1847 and 1867

Ephraim's father thought to be James, who has been variously connected to George Morrow and William Morrow, sons of Old Sam. (See this list of participants.) However, the DNA test disproved this connection, as Ephraim’s descendants do not match Old Samuel’s, but the profile here documents the family of James m. Catherine Shoemaker, of SC, Georgia, and Randolph Co, AL, and asserts Ephraim is a son. Additional DNA testing from this line would be helpful.
