Last Rites Held for Mrs. Emma Briggs
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral home for Mrs. Emma Briggs, 81. Mrs. Briggs, formerly of 115 West St., St. Marys, had been a resident of the Roselawn Nursing Home for the past two and one-half years. She succumbed at Roselawn Home at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday. Dec. 23.
She was born March 25, 1878, in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, a daughter of William F. and Emma (Stelz) Savidge. On April 8, 1900, she was married to Dr. Harry L. Briggs, who died February [?], 1947.
She was a member of the Wayne St. Methodist Church in St. Marys, and Hawthorne Lodge 119 of the Order of the Eastern Star, St. Marys.
Surviving are two nieces, Mrs. Ed (Gladys) Reynolds of Spencerville, and Mrs. Richard (Mildred) Kill of Delphos; and a nephew, Alfred E. Savidge, of Spencerville.
Rev. John T. Miller officiated at last rites and interment was in the Spencerville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Murray Griffin, Wayne Putman, Vernon Kill, Dale Savidge, and Don and Steven Barnes.

Funeral card; public auction flyer (30 Nov 1968); BibleEmma Briggs signed the front of her Bible on Feb 15, 1959, and wrote information in the sections under Births, Marriages, and Deaths. Her Bible was found in the home of her great-neice, Violet (Reynolds) Ashton, a granddaughter of Emma's brother, Samuel, in Venedocia, Van Wert Co., Ohio, in July 2011, and is now in the possession of Violet's grandson, Jonathan W. Medaugh, in Corning, Perry Co., Ohio.
