Emily Frances Harris was baptised on 29th June 1851 at Hunston in Sussex, daughter of Lucy Harris, late Cousins, formerly Grant, and her second husband George Harris, an agricultural labourer. Emily appears in the 1861 census living with her parents and siblings at Hunston. Some time between 1861 and 1871 her parents moved to Yorkshire, and it seems likely that she went with them: her next sighting is in 1870 when she was married at Sculcoates in Yorkshire to a William Lidster.
The 1871 census finds William and Emily living at Great Driffield, with William working as a plasterer and bricklayer. By 1881 they were living in Hull and William was a fruit merchant. William and Emily do not appear to have had any children of their own, but they adopted a girl from Leeds called Eliza or Lizzie Middleton, who was born about 1883.
Emily's mother Lucy died in 1886. After Lucy's death, Emily's father George Harris came to live with her and William. The 1891 census finds Emily and William (now a farmer) living at Moss in Yorkshire with their adopted daughter Eliza and Emily's father George. Emily's father George Harris died in 1897 in the Doncaster area, presumably indicating that he lived with them until his death.
The 1901 census finds Emily, William and Lizzie living at Armthorpe, with William now being a building contractor.
Emily has yet to be researched after 1901.
