Marriage license give age at time of marriage erroneously as 43 instead of 23! Witnesses to marriage were Florenz (Boots) Theus and Marie Stoit. DC [county file #40810] lists cause of death as menigioma from Falex cerebri six days after undergoing an operation by Dr. Shuman, who also treated Clara [TH-IL 49]. Died of brain tumor according to Rita Mangelsdorf [phone call 2/2002]; housewife. Diary of Marie Theus Vollmer says that Marie gave blood for her sister’s second blood clot operation on 25 September.

Obituary in Rock Island Argus, Sept. 30, 1953 [TH-IL 185]: SERVICES TO BE HELD FRIDAY FOR MRS. ELLA ACKER Mrs. Ella Acker, 1504 Thirty-seventh street, Rock Island, died at 9 p.m. Tuesday in St. Anthony’s hospital after an extended illness. She had been a patient in the hospital since Sept. 11. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Hodgson funeral home. The Rev. H.F. C. Wetzel, pastor of Immanuel Litheran church, will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home after 11 a.m. Thursday. Mrs. Acker, the former Ella Theus, was born May 6, 1889, in Rock Island, a daughter of John and Lena Theus. She was reared and received her education in Rock Island and was married to Philip Acker, March 20, 1912, in Rock Island. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran church. Surviving are four sisters, Mesdames Clara McBride, Marie Vollmer, and Edna Mangeldorf and Miss Mabel Theus, and two brothers, Edward C. and Lawrence, all of Rock Island. Her parents and husband preceded her in death.”
