Died after 1 year of pulmonary tuberculosis. DC [TH-IL 1]; lived in Illinois 48 years, so came to the USA probably at age 4 in 1862. POB given as Berlin, but not so. MC gives birth places and names of Lena’s parents as Ludwig W Steut and Wilhelmina Tramm [TH-IL 3, 4]; Witnessed by Charles Rollhof, Mrs. Wilhelmina Rollhof.

Pauline Stoit Rollhoff was a sibling of Lena according to photo from Rita Mangelsdorf.

Obit in The Rock Island Argus, March 8, 1910, p. 5. ”Mrs. John Theus. Mrs. John Theus died this morning at 10:30 at her home, 924 Seventh avenue, after an illness of two years with a complication of diseases. Deceased was born at Berlin, Germany, Oct 27, 1867, and had resided in Rock Island for 25 years. Her maiden name was Lena Stoit. She was married to Mr. Theus 22 years ago. She was a member of Mayflower camp 101, Royal Neighbors of America. Besides her husband she is survived by seven children, Mrs. Clarence McBride, Ella, Edward, Lawrence, Marie, Edna and Mabel Theus, all of Rock Island. She is also survived by a brother, William Stoit of this city. The funeral will be hald Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the home. The services will be conducted by Rev. Ph. Wilhelm, pastor of the German Lutheran church. Burial will be in Chippianock cemetery.”
