OBIT in The Argus, Rock Island, IL: Oct. 22, 1976, p. 6 [TH-IL 74].. “RITES ARE SET FOR RESIDENT OF ROCK ISLAND Services for Edward C. Theus, 86, who resided with his sister, Mrs. Edward w. Mangelsdorf, 3293 13th Ave., Rock Island, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hodgson Funeral Home, with the Rev. John L. Stuebe, pastor of the Immanual Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Chippianock Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church. Mr. Theus died yesterday morning. He was born Oct 26, 1891, a son of John S. and Lena Stoit Theus, He was a life-time resident of Rock Island. He was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal for 30 years. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and NAREF, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was also a member of the Rock Island VFW Post 1303 and a veteran of World War I. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Earl Volmer, Mrs. Edward W. Mangelsdorf and Miss Mabel Theus and a niece, Miss Barbara Mangelsdorf, all of Rock Island. He is also survived by four nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.”
