Obituary from Rock Island Argus, July 10, 1947: “PHILIP ACKER, 62, SUCCUMBS Rock Island Resident 40 Years Dies at Home; Funeral Services Saturday Philip Acker, 62, of 1504 Thirty-seventh street, Rock Island, a tool grinder for the International Harvester company and a resident of this city 40 years, died at 11:55 o’clock last night in his home after a long ilness. Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon in the Hodgson funeral home, the Rev. Eldon Haake, assistant pastor of Immanuel Lutheran church, officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran cemetery. Mr. Acker was born in Bloomville, Ohio, Jan. 21, 1885, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Philip Acker. He married Ella Theus in Rock Island March 20, 1912. Surviving are the widow; a brother, Carl, of Attica, Ohio. and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Zutavern of St. Stephens, Ohio. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 o’clock this evening until 3 o’clock tomorrow afternoon. The body will be taken to the residence at that time and returned to the funeral home at noon Saturday.”
