Elizabeth Edwards was baptised on 10th October 1830 at North Mundham in Sussex, daughter of Fanny Edwards, formerly Johnson and her husband James Edwards, an agricultural labourer. The family lived in the hamlet of Runcton. Elizabeth's paternal grandmother lived nearby at Lagness, but died in 1832.

Elizabeth appears in the 1841 census living with her parents at Marsh Farm in North Mundham.

By 1851 Elizabeth had left home and was working in the nearby city of Chichester as a domestic servant for a chemist and his family who lived on East Street. Elizabeth has yet to be traced after 1851.
