Eliza Edwards was baptised on 25th February 1821 at Pagham in Sussex, daughter of Fanny Edwards, formerly Johnson, and her husband James Edwards, an agricultural labourer. The family lived in the hamlet of Lagness. Eliza has yet to be traced after her baptism. One possibility is that she was the Eliza Edwards who married George Elliott in 1846, but their marriage certificate would need to be obtained to confirm.
