THOMAS LANKFORD, appoints Ambrose K. Blackwell his atty, Book K, page 18

"Allabama Ashville St. Clair Cty June 11th 1831
Know all men by these presents that Whereas I Thomas Lankford am Seized in fee Simple of and in all that tract or parcel of land bequeathed me as a legacy of Ambrose Blackwell deceased Situated in the County of Jackson and State of Georgia and lying adjacent to the plantation of Elijah Cowan and Diamond Hill Now Know Ye that I Thomas Lankford have made constituted and appointed and by these presents do make constitute and appoint Ambrose Blackwell of Hall County and State last aforesaid my true and lawful attorney for me and in my name to Sell and dispose of the Same tract or parcel of land above described for such price or Sum of Money and to Such person or persons as he shall think proper and convenient and also for me and in my name as my act and deed to Sign Seal execute and deliver such deeds and convey on as for the Sale thereof or any part thereof with Such Claims covenant and agreement to be therein contained as my said attorney Shall think fit and proper. Hereby ratifying all Such deeds and conveyances bargain & sales which Shall at any time hereafter be made by my said attorney touching the above premises & In Witness Whereof I hereunto fix my hand & seal this 11th day of June 1831

Overview

There are several contemporary Elijah Cowans in southeastern United States during the first half of the 19th century. The Elijah of this article is the one married to Sarah Ann, and was born in NC about 1800. By 1830 he is believed to be in Henry County Georgia. Sometime after 1840 he moved to Ouacita Parish, LA, where he died about 1880.

Elijah Cowan was born about 1800 in North Carlina, per 1850 census records.
His wife's given name is believed to be Sarah or Sarah, about 1830.
An Elijah Cowan on the 1817 Emigration Roll for the Cherokee who were to be removed to Arkansas Territory. (Obviously Different person)

This couple had several children in GA. He may be the Elijah Cowan who was living in Henry County GA in 1830 and 1840.
He next appears in 1850 census in LA.
His last child was born 1854 in Ouachita Parish LA.
There was also an Eli or Person:Elijah Cowan (3) in Hall Co Ga who died there in 1809, and so can not be the same person...but might be related.
