[edit] Related[edit] OverviewEdward stated in his Revolutionary War pension application that he was born in North Carolina in 1757. We do not know where in North Carolina, or who his parents were. He is often given a POB of Duplin County probably he is known to have been living there at the time of Revolutionary War Service. Sometime after the Revolution he left that area, and next appears in Sullivan County TN, where Jane Horne in 1790. They may have lived for awhile in Russell County VA as a man by that name appears on tax records between 1800 and 1805. In any case, by 1805 were living in Sullivan County TN. They seemed to have moved around a fair bit, living in a number of different locations. Initially, they seemed to have lived in the Horse Creek watershed. At some point they may have lived on Reedy Creek across from Long Island in Kingsport. in 1813 they moved to the Bays Mountain area, perhaps settling near Blairs Gap Road on the Sullivan/Hawkins County line. A few years later, by about 1818, the family moved to Mulberry Creek, a tributary of Powell River in what is now Hancock County. Edward died here in 1838. Edward and Jane had at least 10 children. Their life details may be briefly summarized as follows (Color coding in notes section highlights children who left the area, where known):
[edit] NotesBased on input from Phillip Walker, 19 Sep 2011 (much more detailed work needed: Edward said in his pension that he lived in Russell County, Virginia, after the Revolution but before he moved to Claiborne County. His widow did not mentioned Russell County. Nonetheless we know they lived there between 1800 and 1805, as he lis listed in tax records during that period. No deeds have been found for him in Russell County, which may indicate that he was a renter, rather than a land owner. The couple lived in Sullivan County, Tennessee from about 1805 until about 1818-1819, though neither seemed to have mentioned it in their pension records. They moved to Claiborne County TN about 1818-1819. Census records their children and grandchildren consistently give their own POB as in Tennessee -- except for John W., who, in 2 out of 3 Censuses, said he was born in Virginia. This son was born during the time frame that an Edward Walker appears in the Russell County tax lists, so this is consistent with the census records. Nonetheless, at least one of the tax lists shows Edward with more than one male poll during this period. This unidentified males doesn't correspond to his known children. This could be a son by a previous marriage, or perhaps someone just living with them (e.g., a farm hand). Or the Edward Walker in Russell County is really a different Edward Walker. From John Blair, WalkerShortList Concerning Edward Walker who is listed on the tax rolls of Russell Co. VA (1800-1805) , and IF he is according to early family research the father of Margaret Walker Blair, it might help that Jacob & Margaret Blair were in 1800 in Rowan Co. NC, and in 1810 Wilkes Co. NC, before moving to Russell Co. in 1811. References
