Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:

• Page 138.--15th September, 1748. Joseph Reed, Taylor to David Sayers, Jr. Bought by Joseph from Wm. Beverley, 24th July, 1740, and 26th September, 1741. Corner James Robinson; Christian's Creek; corner Francis Beaty. Teste: John Buchanan, Charles and Pat. Campbell. (Note: Joseph Reed had sold part (if not the remainder) of the same tract to David Sawyers, Sr. a few years earlier in 1741).

Information on David Sawyers

Some sources claim that David Sawyers, Jr. was born in 1733, but since he was of age to acquire land in Augusta County, VA in 1748, his likely birthdate was probably somewhere between 1726-1728. But, the following record establishes David Sawyers's birthdate in 1733 (unless he under-estimated his age in the deposition):

• Vol. 2 - Page ___--David Sayers deposes, 17th October, 1806, in Wythe County, in 1740, he came from Maryland to Virginia, Borden's grant, and lived with Solomon Moffett. He lived in the grant 22 years; he is now in his seventy-fourth year. David's brother settled on the grant one year after Solomon. John Edmonston purchased from Benj. Borden, Senior, in 1742. Deponent first knew the land in 1742. Deponent was born 1733.

Sayers, David

1733 - David Sayres was born, probably in Pennsylvania, son of David Sawyers, Sr. (some say Robert Sayers or John Sayers were his father, although the land record listing him as "David Sayers, Jr", above is fairly convincing)

1771, 1774 - Lived on New River at the north end of William Herbert's militia district (now Wythe County).

1772 (approximately) - David Married Mary Beatty in Fincastle Co., Virginia.

1774 - Did not find David's name on the list paid for Dunmore's War but probable brother Robert was on the list (see below)

1782 Montgomery Co., VA personal tax list: 1 tithe, 1 slave, 10 horses, 32 cattle

1819 - He died in Wythe Co., VA

Children: Joanna (b. 20 Nov 1772) m. Samuel Crockett (son of Andrew Crockett); William; Nancy m. Samuel McPherson; David (b. 1777) m. Rhoda Davis; Robert (b. abt 1780) m. Nancy Crockett (dau. of Andrew) and removed to Rutherford Co., TN.
