Overview

This article is for the Daniel Walker whose will and probate record establish the fact that he died in Talbot County, MD, in 1702. [1] Daniel (14)'s parents are believed to be John Walker of the Stand of Pilkington and Elizabeth, based on a death record for daughter Elizabeth [2]given in a "History of Talbot County" [3] On this basis we can guess that Daniel was probably borne in the Stand of Pilkington. We know that he was an adult in Talbot County, MD in 1665, based on the fact that he served on a jury in that year.[4] and so would probably have been born by about 1640, immigrating to America as a young man.

Daniel's 1702 will identifies six children children, viz:

"On October 22, 1687, a tract of 114 acres known as "Sparks Outlet "was surveyed for William Sparks. The patent for this tract was issued on June 12, 1688 (Talbot County Deed Book 2, p. 625). According to this patent, this tract was assigned to Sparks by Thomas Smithson who was an assignee of Daniel Walker, all being of Talbot County . Walker had acquired this tract as part of a grant of 1,200 acres on June 13, 1687. In the patent, it is described as "that tract or parcel of land called Sparkes Outlett lyeing in Talbott County neare Chester River betwixt the Land of the said William Sparkes and the Land of John Hawkins beginning at a marked Red oake standing in or near the line of John Hawkins and--?-- runs thence south-west most eighty perches to another marked Red oake thence southeast forty perches to a marked blacke oake att the Corner of a little pocoson, thence east and by south one hundred sixty perches, ...and from the end there of Running north and by east towards the Land of John Hawkins one hundred and fourteen perches and from the end of the north and by east line runing west and by north to the first Red Oake Containing within the sd lines and now laid out for one hundred and fourteen Acres be it more or less ...... according to the Certificate of survey thereof taken and Returned into the Land office att the City of St.Maries being date the twenty second day of October one thousand six hundred eighty seaven..." For this tract William Sparks promised to pay the Lord Proprietor "Rent of foure shillings and seven pence sterling in silver or Gold..."

Our Maryland Heritage, Book 2: The Walker Families. gives Daniel Walker's birth at about 1639 in Talbot County Maryland but does not state the source for birthplace

19 March 1713 Daniell Walker Senr. Of Talbot County in the Province of Maryland, Plantor of the one part and Daniell Walker Junr, Wm. Walker & Charles Walker all of Talbot County afores’d Planters of the other part, Witnesseth: that the sayd Daniell Walker Senr. for a valuable Consideration of the Sums of Sixteen Thousand pounds of Tobacco already provided before the sealing of s’d presents, Hath Given Granted bargained & Sold unto the said Daniell Jr., William and Charles fore Ever Four Tracks or parcells of land one of the Tracts called & known by the name of Miles Alias Milington Lyoing on (St.) Mich. River on the North Syde of the Sayd River near the Dividing branches Beginning at a marked pine … on the main branch called Ashby branch contain layed out for fifty acres. One other Track of Land called Daniel’s Gift Laying on the River afs’d in Talbot County afs’d on the North side of the afs’d River bounding the said River… to the Stansley (?( Branch (very difficult to be certain) containing fifty acres of land. And one other Track of Land called Walkers Tooth lying on the River on the North Syde of St. Michaels River standing at the head of a small cove by the way Syde that loads from Walker’s plantation to Kinnimont,running NE to land formerly layd out for Henry Parker Called the Neglect containing 147 acres of land And one other track or parcel part of a track of Land called the Addition laid out for Thomas Smithson Being Thirty acres of Land … (signed) Daniel Walker Senr. 1. ↑ There is evidence for several Daniel Walkers in Talbot County Maryland during the period from about 1650 to about 1740, including a son, and a grandson. Data for different Daniel Walkers appears to have merged with that of Daniel (14) in the popular literature for the genealogy of this family.

   Elizabeth Walker dau of Daniel Walker who was son of John Walker of the Stand of Pilkington by Eliz: his wife, departed 1 Jul 1714.

   The phrasing "Daniel...son of John Walker...by Eliz: his wife" is slightly ambiguous. As given here Elizabeth is probably intended to be interpreted as the wife of John, but it is possible that the author meant that she was the wife of Daniel. In anycase, this passage makes it clear that Daniel's father was John Walker of the Stand of Pilkington. The Stand of Pilkington is a location in Lancashire, England.
