Overview

This article is for Charles Walker (11) (c1666-1729) of Prince Georges County MD, commonly known as "Charles of Bacon Hill". He has been commonly identified as the son of a Daniel Walker of Talbot County Maryland, probably on the strength of the fact that Daniel is of about the right age to be Charles' father, and in fact had a son named Charles per Daniel's will. Kent Walker, a descendant of Charles, has noted two lines of evidence for rejecting this. His evidence, along with additional thoughts, is summarized below:

Key: Green=Talbot County, Brown=Prince George's County

1. Prince George's County records show that the wife of Charles of Bacon Hill was named Rebecca, while Talbot County records show that the wife of Charles of Talbot County, son of Daniel, was "Elizabeth"
2. Evidence has been found to show that Charles of Bacon Hill was transported to America about 1680, settling in Prince Georges County, While Daniel Walker has been shown to have been present in Talbot County since at least 1665.
3. The first Daniel Walker in Talbot County (Daniel (14)), did not list a son "Charles" in his will of 1702. His son, Daniel Jr., (b. 1673) lists a son Charles in his will of 1736. That son can not be Charles of Bacon Hill because the latter Charles has been shown to have transported to America in 1680 as a teenager.
4. Land records show Charles of Bacon Hill, and Charles son of Daniel Jr., were each active in Prince Georges County and Talbot County respectively, during the early 1700's.
