On the 1860 census, age 3 , with parents in Jefferson Twp., Polk Co., Ia. [p 95 fam #765/700] In 1870, age 13, Valley , Polk Co., Ia. [p406 fam #97/107] He married (1) Mary Ann FRY 6 Apr 1880 in Washington Twp., Greene Co., Ia. She was born 19 Jan 1860 in Mo. On the 1880 census we see Daniel, age 23, a farmer in Washington Twp., Greene Co., Ia. With him is wife Mary, age 20, and a farm hand, Nelson Adkins, age 27.[ED 99 fam #13/13] On the 1910 census there, Daniel is 52, a farmer on a "general" farm he owns free and clear, with wife Mary, age 50. With them are Burton , 26, and Grover, 19.[ED 106, p 5B, fam #116/118] After Mary died, Daniel married (2) Ethel HUNT. We are told he "Was an active and well-known farmer and stock raiser in vicinity of Rippey, Greene Co., Ia., for many years. He was a physically powerful man, very energetic and hard working. His sturdiness physically, as well as a citizen of the community, is well represented by the monument over his grave in Rippey Cemetery, Block 8, Lot 22, Rippey Cemetery, Rippey, Ia.[RGrCem] "Bluff, Outspoken, but Kindly Uncle Dan." On the 1920 census, we find Ethel, a widow, age 32, born in Ia. - as was her parents - with Wesley, age 5 . She indicates no form of employment. On the 1930 census, age 42 and a widow, she continues in Rippy. she owns a home worth $1200 and does have a radio. She is a manager of a beauty parlor. (ED 37-33, p. 2B, fam #55/55) Ethel died 1971, and was buried in Rippey, Greene Co., Ia. In the Rippey Cemetery, we find under "Wilson" one Ethel Rittgers, d. 1971. She is in Block 7, lot 35, along with Homer O. (1861-1958) and Ida L. (1864-1938) Hunt. (RGrCem)
