He is on 1870 census , age 4, with parents in Valley, Polk Co., Ia. [p 406 fam #97/107] and there in 1880, age 15 , with mother.[p 541 fam #131/134] On the 1900 census we see George, age 35, a farmer in Rippey, Greene Co., Ia. Julia is 34, they have been married 8 years and she has born 4 children at this time. We also learn that her parents were born in Ill. With them also is Lavon Carlisle, b. Feb 1881, Ill., a nephew and farm laborer.[ED 97, p 7A, fam #187/187] In 1910 George, now 44, is farming in Dawson Twp., Greene Co., Ia. Wife Julia is 44, also. She declares they have been married 19 years, that she bore 8 children, all still alive. With them are children Glen, 16 thru Homer, 1 yr. and five mo. [ED 93, p 6A, fam #75/75] They are still farming in Dawson in 1920. George is 55 and Julia, 54. With them are children Gertrude, 20, thru Homer, 11.[ED 103, p 1A, fam 4/3 ] He was a farmer and stock raiser near Rippey, Greene Co., Ia. In a photocopied newspaper article, with no news banner or date, we see that Mrs. J.J. Stewart was in Bakersfield, Calif., with brothers B.F. Rittgers (Benjamin #12.H) of Rolfe, Ia., and G.M. (George #12.J) Rittgers, Jefferson, Ia., and half brother G.W. Betts (could this be Guttip Bates, son of her mother?), of Bakersfield, Calif. It reports that the brothers had not met for sixty-five years. In his later years he made his home with his daughter, Marvel (Rittgers) Wilbur at Jefferson, Polk Co., Ia. They are buried in Rippey Cemetery, Block 8, Lot 22, with brother Daniel. [RgrCem, p. 36] References
