Warrant No. 74. The State of North Carolina. To all whom these Presents shall some, Greeting. Know ye, that we, for and consideration of the sum of fifty Shillings for every hundred acres hereby granted, paid into our Treasury.
By Christopher Cunningham. Have given and granted unto the said Christopher Cunningham a tract of Land containing 590 acres Lying and being in our County of Washington on both sides of Bufaloe Creek. Beginning at a Reelrok and White oak saplin a Comes in Andrew Taylors Line thence a Long ___ south by East 140 poles Crossing the said Creek thence the same Corse [remainder of boundaries omitted].
As by the plat hereto annexed doth appear, together with all woods, waters, mines, minerals, hereditaments and appertanances to the said land belongting or appertaining, to hold the said C. Cunningham his heirs and assigns forever. Yielding and paying to us such sums of money yearly or otherwise as General Assembly, from time to time, may direct, provided always that the said C. Cunningham shall cause this Grant to be Registerd in the Register's Office of our said County of Washington within twelve months from the date hereof, otherwise the same shall be void and of non effect.
Witness: Alx. Martin, dated at Fairfield, 24th day of October 1782.
Warrant No. 630. The State of North Carolina. To all whom these Presents shall some, Greeting. Know ye, that we, for and consideration of the sum of fifty Shillings for every hundred acres hereby granted, paid into our Treasury.

Martin Esq. our governor Capt. General commander in chief at Newborn the tenth day of Nov. in the ninth year of our Independence and A.D. 1784 by this ___ command.

Will of Christopher Cunningham, Washington County, North Carolina [later Tennessee], Will Book I, pg. 14
In the Name of God Amen, The Tenth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty two, I Christopher Cunningham of the county of Washington and state of North Carolina, being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to God. Therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my body and Knowing that it is appointed for all men once to Die, Do make and ordain this my Last will and testement. Viz, principally and first of all I give and recommend my Soul unto the hands of God that gave it and as for my body I recommend it to the Earth to be buried in a Christian Like and Decent manner at the Descretion of my Executor, Nothing Doubting but at the General resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty Power of God and as touching such worldly Estate where with it hath pleased God to bless me with in this Life. I give Devise and Dispose of the same in the following manner and form. ~
Imprimes, I give and bequeath to Mary My Dearly beloved wife the third part of all my household goods and moveables together with the third part of all my Lands misuages? and tenements by her freely and possessed and enjoyed during her Life.
Item I give and bequeath to my Fifteen children Viz: My Daughter Elizabeth Gatrill, my Daughter Susanna Robertson, My Daughter Lydia Cunningham, my son John Cunningham, my Daughter Mary Job, my Daughter Ann Orr, my Daughter Sarah Cunningham, my Daughter Jane Cunningham, my son Jacob Cunningham, my Son Joseph Cunningham, my son Mathew Cunningham, my son Moses Cunningham, my Son Aaron Cunningham, my [Daughter] Elenor Cunningham & my son David Cunningham all and singular my lands misuages and tenements together with all my household goods and moveable equally and evenly to be divided amongst them and by them freely to be possessed and enjoyed and if Either of the aforementioned children should Die before he or she heireth their legacy then the Legacy of the Deceased Equally to be Divided between these that are Living Except my Daughter Elizabeth Gatril and my Daughter Susanna Robertson to have no part of the Legacy that John Musgroves left to Mary my wife and after convenient time may be all my household goods and Moveables to be sold at publick sale and Division thereof to be made so as that my Executors shall bid off and return unto my wifes possession as much of the goods and chattels as may be thought to be the Equal part of all those that are under her change at the time.
My land also to be kept undivided until such time that my youngest child comes of age or such time as he may Do for himself that it may be for the support of those that are yet to raise and as they shall come of age two men being Duly Sworn Shall Value off to them their Legacy according as things sold at the Vendue.
And [I] do appoint and ordain Matthew Talbot and Joseph Tipton the sole Executors of this my Last will and testament.
And I do utterly disallow revoke and Disanul all and every other former will and testament in any ways before now Ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my Last will and Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal the Day and year first above written.

    Notes for William Murphy:
    Wm. was baptised in the Broad Run Baptist Church of Pittsylvania County, VA on June 7, 1764.
    One Jane Murphy was baptised June 12, 1763 - to Halifax. Pittsylvania County was formed in 1767 from Lunenburg Co., which was formed in 1746.
    In 1759 it was Halifax Co.

    Enlisted in 1776 at age 17 in Capt. John Wilkinsons Company in Bedford Co., VA July 1776, Private under Capt. Wm. Leftridge, Lt. Calloway, Ensign James Bond, three months; April 1777, Private under Capt. Peter Herston, Lt. William Ferguson, Ensign Edward Tatum, in Col. Christy`s Regiment. Marched 200 miles to Long Island on the Holston to stand guard during a treaty with the Cherokee, three months; August 1777, was substitute for Gwin Dudley, Second Sergeant under Capt. Thomas Doley, Lt. Harry Talbott and Ensign Calloway, and marched to Williamsburg, three months.
    October 12, 1778, in Capt. Robert Sevier`s Company of Washington County NC for five months, with Lt. Christopher Connaught, Ensign Charles Young in Col. Peasleys battalion of Colonel Rutherford`s NC Regiment; in December was promoted to First Sergeant and in March Ensign under Capt. Christopher Cunningham, who succeeded Capt. Sevier; was at the defeat of Gen. Ashe at Briar Creek.
