Death? 30 Jan 1897 Detroit, Michigan

Christian Clos was the fourth child of Martin Clos and Magdelena (Leonard) Clos. He was born on 8 July 1835 in Blieskastel in the state of Saarland in what is now Germany. The area is on the border with France and had been under French control from 1792 until the defeat of Napolean in 1815. At the time Christian was born it had become part of the Kingdom of Bavaria. In 1848 there was a popular revolt across continental Europe, including Bavaria. After its failure many people from the German states emigrated.

Martin and Magdalena Clos immigrated to the U.S., sailing from Le Havre, France with most of their surviving children on the ship Harvest Queen, identifying their place of origin as Bavaria, and arrived in the United States on 12 Oct. 1853. Christian was 18 at the time.

Christian married Catherine Henris in 1864, when she was about 18 and he 29. Catherine was also of French-German parentage, and had arrived in the U.S. as a child on 19 Nov. 1853. Both families had settled in Detroit, Michigan. Christian and Catherine had seven children, all born at 341 Orleans St. in Detroit. She died on June 6, 1877 at age 31, and he died on Jan. 30, 1897 at age 61, both of them while residing at 341 Orleans.

I may have supplemented the information from the Close family tree with other sources, but lost track of the specifics. Possibilities would include ship registries from the Ellis Island website and the Michigan Death Index.
