Charles Benjamin Shuff

was born on the Catoctin Mountain near Thurmont, Maryland on March 8, 1897. This is presently the site of Camp David (the presidential retreat). There was a Catoctin Furnace there where they made cannon balls for the Washington Army. He moved to Ohio from Maryland when he was 8 years old. He came on a train with his mom and kids. They settled in between Bascom and Tiffin. Then is sister Pearl was born in 1906. Charles went to a one room school and walked to the school which was south of the farm. He only went to the eight grade, but he was smarter than a lot of people who went to college. He knew woodworking very well. He worked at the Fox Lumber Company which later became the Adams Street Lumber Company in Tiffin. S11
