Facts and Events
Charles Thomas Haydon was born around 1860 in Port Fairy, Victoria, then known as Belfast. He was the eigth known child of English born parents George Haydon, a blacksmith from Bristol, and his wife Clarissa Watts. Despite being christened Charles Thomas, he was known as Thomas C. Haydon, perhaps because he was born the year his 21 month old brother Thomas Edward died. Charles was a police officer, and later a police sergeant, initially in Bendigo, then in Ferntree Gully and later Collingwood. He married Margaret Connor, a local girl from Kangaroo Flat of Irish descent, and they had seven children, three sons and four daughters. Their second son Eric died at the age of four. Their third son was also named Eric in his memory. Charles died at the age of 73 in 1933, leaving Margaret a widow. He was buried in the Ferntree Gully cemetery alongside his son Eric, to be later joined there by Margaret in 1955. Image Gallery
