Facts and Events
Eric Haydon was born in 1905 to parents Thomas Charles Haydon, a police sergeant, and his wife Margaret Connor. Eric was the youngest child in the family and suffered polio at a young age. Being the youngest, he was affectionately known as Jock, as in "wee Jock". He married Beatrice Cundall in the mid 1930s and they had two children, Lynette and Geoffrey. Eric was an ironwork factory owner and was commissioned to work on many well known projects in Melbourne including the West Gate Bridge and one of the Melbourne Royal Botanic Garden gates which bears his initials EEH. A keen sailor, he was an active member of the St Kilda Yacht Squadron. He was also an AFL football fan and a member of the Collingwood football club. Eric died in 1993 in Melbourne. His ashes were scattered into the bay as was his wish. Image Gallery
