Claude was a salesman prior to his enlistment in the armed forces on March 7 1916. He embarked for war from Melbourne on 27 June 1916 and returned to Australia on 1 July 1919. Claude married a war widow, Clarice, and raised three children - stepdaughters Dorothy and Joyce, and their son Brian. They lived in Sheldon, Red Cliffs, Victoria. Claude died in Hampton in 1945.
