Catherine Newborn was baptised on 27th March 1774 at Barnack in Northamptonshire, second of twelve children of Edward Newborn and Mary Lambert. When she was 22 she had a daughter, Esther. Eighteen months later, Catherine married a blacksmith named Thomas Cox, with whom she went on to have another three children: Matthew in 1800, William in 1802 and Sophia in 1805.

Thomas died in 1830, after which Catherine lived with her son William until her death in 1851, aged 77.

    Catharine D[aughte]r of Edw[ar]d & Mary Newborn - Mar[ch] 27

This baptism has been linked to the Catherine Newborn who married Thomas Cox on the basis that it is at the right time and place to match the age and birthplace she gave in the 1851 census, plus one of the witnesses to Catherine's marriage to Thomas Cox was John Brumhead, who was married to Ann Newborn, younger sister of the Catherine the subject of the 1774 baptism.
