Betsy Moles was baptised on 3rd July 1842 at Willian in Hertfordshire, daughter of a straw plaiter named Hannah Moles, formerly Pratt, and her husband William Moles, an agricultural labourer. Betsy appears in the 1851 census living with her parents and siblings in Willian and working as a straw plaiter herself. Betsy's mother died in 1857, when Betsy was 15 years old. The 1861 census finds Betsy living in Willian with her widowed father and two of her sisters.

Betsy married in 1863, when she was 20 years old. Her husband was Alfred Aldridge, an agricultural labourer from Graveley, a couple of miles south of Willian. They married in Willian, but then settled in Graveley, where they had nine children between 1863 and 1886, although their first child died when he was a small baby. Each census from 1871 to 1901 finds the family living in Graveley. Betsy's father died in 1879.

Alfred died in 1906, aged 64.

After Alfred's death, Betsy moved to London, living in Greenwich with her daughter Kate. She appears to have died in the Barnet area in 1920, aged 78.
