Bernard's family resided in Clyde, KS where he enjoyed his youth, and attended the local schools. In 1914 he moved to Topeka, Ks. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War I. Fifteen years of failing health had preceded that eternal rest which came at the McPherson County Hospital.

Obituary - TOPEKA DAILY CAPITOL, Friday, June 28, 1968 Bernard Carlson Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at McPherson Evangelical Covenant Church for Bernard F. Carlson, 72, McPherson, a former Topekan who died Wednesday night in Topeka after a long illness. He was born March 3, 1896 in Sweden. He came to the United States and to Clyde, Kan. when he was 3. He lived in Topeka from 1914 - 1937, when he moved to McPherson. Mr. Carlson was a member of McPherson Evangelical Covenant Church. He was a retired cabinet maker. Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. Gunhild Dahlstrom, 124 N. Kendall, and two brothers, Gust Carlson, 110 N. Courtland and Edwin Carlson, Clifton. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka.
