Benjamin Conkling, the second son of Joseph and Mary (Cory) Conkling was born by 1758 in Essex County, New Jersey. He is listed on the 1793 Essex County Militia Roll. Essex County deeds show that Benjamin and his brother Joseph sold land to Benjamin Cory, Sr. in 1804. Benjamin died in May, 1811 and was buried on 11 May 1811. His will was dated 10 May 1811 and proved on 1 July 1811. It states that he lived in Rahway Township, Essex County. Benjamin named his wife Hannah and brother Isaac as executors. Hannah apparently could not write as she signed the will with her mark. Benjamin left everything to his wife. The estate inventory shows $472.52 and a bible. Most sources state that Benjamin's wife was Hannah Mulford. Hannah died and was buried on 9 April 1836, in New Jersey. She is said to have died at 76 or 77 years of age. She became a member of the First Church of Elizabeth in 1776.
