Joseph Conkling and his wife,Mary Cory lived their life in Elizabeth New Jersey. In the early 1800-s three of their sons Joseph, Stephen and Isaac moved with their families to Cincinnati Ohio. From Cincinnati some family members moved to neighboring Butler and Clermont counties. Some of their descendants have continued to live in those counties or other parts of Ohio until the present day. Others moved west. In the 1840’s some Conklins moved to Indiana. The next two decades (1850 through 1860) saw family members settling in Illinois and Iowa. By 1870 the destination of choice was the state of Kansas.The families often moved as a group and often moved with descendants of other colonial Elizabeth and West Field New Jersey families.
