Archibald, later of Woodside, married Margaret BOGLE, eldest daughter of William Bogle, postmaster in Glasgow. In 1827 Archibald ran the family firm “Hamilton and Monteith” with James Monteith ("Provosts of Glasgow from 1609 to 1832"). Archibald bought Woodside in 1817, after Benjamin Barton, commissary clerk had been proprieter; it was sold in 1839 to Mr. Rowan of Linthouse (Old country houses of the old Glasgow gentry). Margaret Bogle (b. 1sep1788) was daughter of William Bogle (26sep1762-24nov1806), postmaster, and Martha Marshall (15jan1766-1848) (R. Kelly, worldconnect). Archibald died abt 1860 (stirnet). Glasgow PO Directory lists in 1831 Archibald Hamilton, 208 Blythswood Hill, of Hamilton, Monteith and Co., wine merchants and wholesale tea dealers, 157 Trongate, and in 1841 Archibald, manager of Glasgow Insurance Co., 98 Miller St., house 320 St. Vincent St. In 1841 Archibald Hamilton (b. 1786, outside county, merchant), Matilda (b. 1821, Lanarks) and Helen B. (b. 1831, Lanarks) were at 320 St. Vincent St., Barony (census). References
