Facts and Events
Ann Maria (or Hannah Maria) Dingley was baptised on 10th April 1789 at Cropthorne in Worcestershire, daughter of Mary Dingley, formerly Lane, and her husband Edward Dingley, a wheelwright. Ann's father died in 1815.
Ann's next sighting is in 1818, when she was married at Cropthorne to a shoemaker named John Lies, who was from the neighbouring town of Evesham. Ann and John settled in Evesham, where they had seven children baptised between 1819 and 1832. Ann's mother died in 1819, around the same time that Ann's first child was born.
John is listed in an 1820 trade directory as having his business on Bridge Street.
John died in 1839, leaving Ann with the children aged from twenty down to seven to look after. The 1841 census finds Ann and the children living on Bridge Street, with Ann working as a shopkeeper.
Ann’s son George died as a young man in 1846, aged 22.
Later in 1846 a man was sent to jail for one month for stealing two loaves of bread from Ann.
Ann survived John by nearly nine years. She died on 18th January 1848 at Mill Street in Evesham, aged 58.

Baptized 1789: Hannah Maria of Edward & Mary Dingley, April 10th
This baptism has been linked to the Ann Maria Dingley who married John Lies in 1818 on the basis that it is in the same parish in which she married and at roughly the time implied by the ages given for the adult Ann in the 1841 census and at her death. Whilst the first name is slightly different (Hannah / Ann) they are derivative versions of each other. The baptism also has the middle name Maria which Ann used when she married, at a time when middle names were comparatively rare. No evidence has been found to suggest that the Hannah Maria baptised in 1789 died young or married anyone else.
