Facts and Events
Robert Dingley was baptised on 24th January 1774 at Bishampton in Worcestershire, England, son of Mary Dingley, formerly Lane, and her husband Edward Dingley, a wheelwright. Shortly after Robert's birth the family moved to the nearby village of Cropthorne, where Robert's father was from. On 16th January 1800, aged about 26, Robert married his cousin, Margaret Dingley, who was daughter of his father's brother Samuel. They married at Cropthorne, although at the time of their marriage Robert was living a few miles away at North Littleton. Sadly, Margaret appears to have died just three months later, shortly after giving birth. Indeed, Margaret was buried at Cropthorne the day before their son (also Robert) was baptised at North Littleton. Five years later, Robert married again. His second wife was Catherine Parker, and they married on 12th October 1805 at Sedgeberrow, a few miles south of Cropthorne. Robert and Catherine went on to have another six children together between 1806 and 1816. Their eldest was baptised at Sedgeberrow, whilst the others were all baptised back at Cropthorne, with some of the baptisms at Cropthorne noting that the family lived in the hamlet of Charlton and that Robert was a wheelwright. Robert's father died in 1815, and his mother died in 1819. Robert died aged 62, being buried at Cropthorne on 2nd August 1836. Catherine survived him by 16 years. References
