George Lies was baptised on 4th April 1823 at Evesham in Worcestershire, son of a shop keeper named Ann Maria Lies, formerly Dingley, and her husband John Lies, a shoe maker. John died when George was 16 years old. The 1841 census finds George living with his mother and siblings at Bridge Street in Evesham and working as a shoe maker's apprentice.

George died as a young man of only 22 years old, being buried at Evesham on 20th January 1846.
