Amelia M. Woolley, daughter of Stites and Mary Woolley was born on 18 September 1842 in Ohio. She was the only daughter to live to adulthood and marry. On 26 May 1862 she married Robert T. Gale in Nebraska City, Nebraska. Robert was a surveyor and came to Nebraska City around 1860. In 1864 he and Amelia moved to Seward where they laid claim to the first homestead in Seward (Seward County) Nebraska on the banks of Plum Creek. The first election in Seward County was held at their farm. Robert died in Seward. He died of consumption before their homestead was "proved up”. He died in the spring of 1867. Amelia then married Samuel C. Ross, a school teacher from Illinois. They are not listed in the 1870 Nebraska census and probably moved out of state by that time. By 1880, they were living in Albian (Multnomah County), Oregon. Samuel often appears in records as S.C. Ross. He is probably the Sam C. Ross who served in 1865 in 50th Illinois Voluntary Infantry from Putnam County, Illinois. According to the 1880 census their children may have been born in Missouri. Amelia died on 15 January 1909. She died before Samuel and may be buried at Lone Fir Cemetery in East Portland, Oregon. The family is not found in the 1900 or 1920 Oregon census.

Amelia (Woolley) Ross, age 60, is listed on the petition filed 31 March 1902, as daughter of Mary Ann Woolley. The petition is filed by Frederic R Woolley in regards to their mother's estate. Amelia is listed as living in East Portland, Oregon.
