Amasa and Jacob enlisted in the 38th IA Infantry in the Civil War, which took part in the siege of Vicksburg and lost so many to disease that it was merged into the 34th IA Infantry. Their unit took part in the charge against Fort Blakely (at Mobile, AL) on April 9, 1865., the same day that Lee surrendered at Appomattox. This information is per an email I received from Charles L. Robinson of Omaha, Nebraska on May 6, 2006.
